Today I visited the towers for a work related task I am a disabled Air Force Veteran which requires me to have a service dog When I arrived I was questioned if my dog was a service animal even though she was wearing a bright red vest that said service animal No problem I get asked all the time When I went to look for the person I was scheduled to meet with a 2017-03-22T19:43:54Z
Today I visited the towers for a work related task I am a disabled Air Force Veteran which requires me to have a service dog When I arrived I was questioned if my dog was a service animal even though she was wearing a bright red vest that said service animal No problem I get asked all the time When I went to look for the person I was scheduled to meet with a volunteer I went to the location where he was supposed to be He was not there so I returned to the lobby where I was confronted by the front desk clerk and two other employees whispering but loud enough for me to hear about me having a service animal The front desk clerk then stated to me that I was not allowed into the dining area with my service animal I explained to him that it was illegal for him to deny me access He said I know But you cant take the dog into the dining area I repeated again that it was illegal and offered him a copy of the ADA law that I carry with me He did not want it and just kept telling me I know its illegal but this is private property and due to health code you cannot enter the dining area The ADA law supersedes this fact I left without being able to do my job The staff at the Pikes Peak Towers should really be retrained to understand the Americans with Disabilities Act Im not sure who the owner is but I would love to discuss this further This is a straight forward case of discrimination against someone with a disability more ... hide ...
