I lived at Carmel Plaza Apartments for a little over a year I would of stayed in this complex however due to the owner getting greedy they decided to raise the rent over 700 from one year to the next Apparently since this complex was built in the 1980s they are not rent controlled This is something you should strongly consider before moving in they can and will raise you rent to whatever they want once your lease upnnThis has caused a massive exodus in the building with most tenants moving out If they would like to charge what other newer amenity rich complexs are charing around the area then they should do some serious remodeling because the building desperately needs it The elevators are also old and one is constantly out of orderbrokennnThe apartments itself are spacious with a washer and dryer in each unit however most of the appliances are older They are also very quiet as you really can not hear your neighbors most importantly they are BUG FREE which is a huge plus in DCnnThe best part about the building is the location The staff is also courteous at the main office although there is one security guard during the weekdays that is NOT friendly and none of the tenants I talked to like him Im not sure why they keep him around The nightweekend security guards are friendly and courteousnnI also did get my security deposit back in FULL within 30 daysnnOverall was a great value before the ridiculous rent hike Now there are betternewer buildings in the area so its not worth the rent price they are currently charging
