The way these apartments treated the tenants during the pandemic was awful They stopped all services including true emergencies The apartments stated they would still do emergencies but when there was a giant leak in the bathroom after calling them multiple times they did nothing It has been 9 months since we reported these leaks and they came only once saying they fixed it but it didnt fix it For 9 months there has been mold growing in the bathroom exposing me and my children to mold and we have told this to the apartments multiple times the entire 9 months A lot of these apartments are income based we cannot afford to get mold exposure tested to see if my and my children were hurt by the neglect of these apartments I am afraid that we all have permanent damage due to the neglect and carelessness of the apartment complex The washer and dryers also do not work in our apartments before the pandemic even started and not being able to dry our clothes we are hand washing seems like an emergency to me becuase I have to have clean clothes to work I am so disheartened by the way Mathew Jensen treats there tenants

My family and I live on Section 8 and we did not have very many options when it came to finding an apartment in Phoenix We moved in near August of 2019 when the property was owned by the Cesar Chavez foundation We lived there for a year and a halfnnThe apartment was fairly broken down There were holes under the sinks the bathroom mirrors were falling off the toilets were rickety The sinks and tubs were resurfaced and eventually the paint started to chip off and get on our dishes Same thing happened with the counter top Otherwise the apartment looked amazingnnWhen we moved in they had just done renovations The carpet stove fridge windows and dishwasher were all new We never had problems with any bugs I have seen two roaches the entire year and a half that Ive lived here As long as you spray the house every 36 months and make sure to keep the house clean clear of clutter you should be fine The apartment was spacious had a full sized bathroom lots of storage and no balcony They also have a daycare and Ive found that the community is mostly friendly Lots of moms with kids when we applied they didnt allow anyone with a criminal record to live here BUT the area is pretty bad and you will need to watch yourself My girlfriend had to stop working the night shift because there were several instances where she was almost mugged walking from her car to the apartment probably would have been if I wasnt there with pepper spraynnStaff application processnIt took MONTHS to get approved for this apartment We had to have bank statements for every member of the household there was an income limit 35k for three adults and nobody is allowed to have over 5k in their bank account We signed close to 50 pages of paperwork just for the application But when we had to renew our lease the process was much simpler one page to sign Just be warned this is not a place where you can simply sign some paperwork and move in within a weeknnMaintenance was also a HUGE problem Most of the workers couldnt speak English They would leave halfway through a repair without telling you if they would be back They never showed up when they were supposed to Even when I called and left my phone number they would not call to give me a window for when they would come to the apartment They often were loud left huge messes and would leave without fixing the problem I would usually need to call 23 times to get it fixed They also took a long time to fix most things we went two weeks without hot water after our water heater exploded Every time we complained to the manager we were told we dont make their schedule youll need to talk to them about it and the issue was dismissed The worst part about it was that maintenance would show up unannounced even when I told them I wouldnt be available that day and would often ENTER THE APARTMENT WITHOUT NOTICE They did this several times when I was not home and they always LEFT THE DOOR OPEN AND UNLOCKED even when I was not in the apartment I had two incidents where I came home from work late at night after 10 pm and found my front door open I called the office and they said that they did an inspection or that maintenance camennThey also towed my car without reason or notice They claimed that my car was inoperable and that the parking sticker was missing Both of those things were untrue the car was dirty but otherwise brand new and the sticker was in view and fine They voided my parking sticker and tried to get me to buy another one for 100 I had to park my car at a friends house because I was afraid it would be towed again When I tried to get a refund the staff got angry with me and suddenly increased my rent They then changed my lease so my family decided it was time to move My case worker believes that I was discriminated against for being on Section 8 and that the staff purposely was trying to bill me for unnecessary things to get me to move out

Management needs to work on communication with residents Office hours are also not great for residents that work 95 jobs as they are only able to come in on Saturdays since Sunday hours were removed The new package lockers are also pointless since not all delivery companies utilize them and residents still end up with packages on their doorstep even though we pay for secure lockers The smart home packages are nice but the leak monitoring really should fall under the scope of the building owner as water damage to the building should be their concern not the residents Considering the new apartment complex that just went in north of Bethany Home one would think Bella Vista would try to be competitive with their rent to keep and acquire residents
