I have been a resident of The Bayside Anchor Apartment Building located on 81 East Oxford Street in Portland since October 19 2020 I am unimpressed with the way in which certain matters are handled These matters are handled in a very disorganized way Sadly there are not enough maintenance workers employed at the Portland Housing Authoritythis translates into the building including the elevator staircases front door vestibule lobby area and apartment unit hallways not being kept clean as frequently as necessary IE Everyday the building should be maintained or at the very leastthree or four days per week The Portland Housing Authority should contract out to a Maintenance Professional Cleaningcompany Recently this apartment building has had problems withcockroaches It would make sense if this housing authority hired an exterminating company to come once per monthto spray all of the tenants apartments Also it would be far less confusing if a list was posted of the office staff at this location 81 East Oxford Street their names and phone numbers and regardibg what situations to contact them about more ... hide ...

Rent prices in southern Maine are completely out of control Many of us who work full time have no choice but to apply for affordable housing because market rate apartments in Portland now cost the same as apartments in bigger cities that have much higher wages Unfortunately for us Avesta has a near monopoly on affordable housing in southern Maine They know this and it shows I have been in this apartment for 6 years and I am still waiting for them to fix things I reported 6 years ago Every year they do an annual inspection and they point out the problems and say how come you didnt report this and I say I DID report it I reported it last year and the year before and the year before but I guess they dont keep records of these things They write it down on the clipboard but who knows where it goes after that When you ask them why havent you fixed this in 6 years they say we dont have money in the budget thats very interesting they have money in the budget for things nobody asked for like a flat screen TV in the lobby that displays the time and temperature they spent thousands of dollars to install that thing ummm hello we all have the time and temperature in our pockets on our phones so you have money for that but you dont have money to fill the craters pot holes in the parking lot Ok whatever you say In 6 years of living here we have had 4 different property managers They hire people off the street with no property management experience One year on the job and Avesta promotes them to senior or regional manager Two or three years on the job and they get promoted to director or VP Its no wonder the company is so poorly run Im giving them 2 stars because frankly it IS better than being homeless and anyone who says theyd rather be homeless than live here is full of it It just sucks that Avesta treats us like we should be grateful for any little scraps they toss our way But this isnt only Avestas fault its the fault of market rate landlords who raise their rents so high that more and more of us have no choice but to apply for affordable housing and it is the fault of local and state politicians who refuse to do anything about high rents and low wages They create or perpetuate the conditions that allow Avesta to treat us this way more ... hide ...

Elm Terrace is the best affordable housing It is owned by Community Housing of Maine and managed by Preservation Management Property maintenance is wonderful and apartment are frequently inspected for working order Full time maintenance staff along with added cleaning staff For 38 apartment they have 4 washers and dryers They are connected to internet 2019-05-22T00:06:50Z
