I was referred to the Coraopolis Towers by the veterans administration during my search for another apartment These apartments are for seniors age 62 and over and meeting the required income level as required by HUD Those with a disability and also veterans are supposed to be given preference to an apartment once one becomes available I met all the above and after waiting nearly six months I was notified that I was moving up on the list and was called in for an interview During the interview I told them about my background and previous places where I lived etc I informed them that my current apartment has a new owner and for the past several years she declined to repair some needed utilities even though I was a tenant for nearly nine years One of the pressing issues was the toilet would not flush and would backup several times a week She was advised by several plumbers that the septic system needed replaced but she refused stating she did not have the funds She then informed me that any further backups caused by human waste it would be my responsibility to have the line cleared Another issue was the thermostats needed replaced but the best she could do was mark the settings with a black marker At that point I filed a complaint with the consumer protection agency with the state attorney general Once she received notice of my actions she decided to have me evicted I appealed her decision and the matter is now before a state court I decided to move out and when the management of Coraopolis Towers contacted her she made all types of allegations of destructive behavior nonpayment and not being a clean tenant The management at Coraopolis Towers used that against me along with a complaint that someone made years ago after I filed a complaint against her for child abuse with the child protection agency so she filed harassment charges against me as retaliation As I stated I am over the age of 62 and provided court documents that those allegations were false plus the fact that the charge was not on my record Coraopolis Towers used some outdated third party for these claims My attorney contacted Coraopolis Towers and they gave him along with a representative from the VA a runaround and would not respond to any questions A representative from one of the regional offices of Jonathan Rose that owns the Coraopolis Towers made threatening comments to me when I notified her that I was contacting HUD since they were providing part of my rent She also told me that she didnt care if I was a veteran or not and then hung up on me Now I am receiving intimidating letters from the attorney for Coraopolis Towers informing me not to contact management again or the Jonathan Rose Management Company The management at the Coraopolis Towers refuse to respond to me I am a child advocate and also volunteer with an agency that works the elderly and several times I had to turn in my coworkers for abuse and told this to Coraopolis Towers at my second interview It is my contention now that they have something to hide and may be concerned that if I was residing there I would discover something illegal and turn them in as well In either case I would not recommend this facility to anyone who still thinks for themselves or any veteran I already spoke to a member of the media and will do so again once I hear back from the Director of HUD
